I've always used a bath pouf/loofah (is that what they're called...?) for my body wash in the shower, but after using this washcloth, I'll never go back! The washcloth takes less than 30 minutes to make, has such a soft & fluffy texture, and feels so nice on your skin.
Materials:
Bulky (#5) or thick medium (#4) yarn
I'm a big believer in the versatility of yarn; as long as you can achieve or adjust the gauge and the quality, drape, etc. of the fabric is to your liking, feel free to substitute with any yarn you like! For these cloths, I'd recommend using a more absorbent fiber, such as cotton or a scrubby polyester (stay away from acrylic!). I found cotton a bit too rough for my liking, so I ended up using Lion Brand Baby Soft Boucle yarn.
Size K (6.5mm) hook
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitch markers
Measurements:
Washcloth: 8" x 8" (in the pictures, the washcloth is folded in half)
Face cloth: 4" x 4"
Gauge:
4" square = 8 stitches x 4.5 rows in dc
Stitches & Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
st(s) = stitch(es)
Notes:
-This pattern is written in US crochet terms.
-Turning ch 2 does not count as a stitch.
-To make these cloths larger/smaller, simply add/subtract stitches in multiples of 2 and add/subtract rows until you reach your desired size.
-The fluffy texture of Baby Soft Boucle yarn can make it somewhat tricky to see your stitches. I highly recommend counting your stitches as you go and "feeling" for the next loop!
Pattern - Washcloth
Foundation: Make a slip knot, then ch 17
R1: 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, (skip 1 st, 2 dc in next st)*7 (16)
R2-9: Ch 2, turn, (2 dc in skipped space between previous row dcs)*8 (16)
Optional - Loop:
At the end of R9, 1 sl st in side of R8, ch 12, 1 sl st in 15th st of R9 to make a loop.
Fasten off, weave in all ends, and you're done!
Bonus Pattern - Face Cloth
